How Much Does a Pedicab Cost in Charleston?

Short answer: most pedicab rides in downtown Charleston run 10 dollars per passenger for every 10 minutes, billed by how long your ride actually takes. No surge pricing, no base-fee surprises, no app math.

If you want the longer answer, with how billing works, what a typical ride costs, and how weddings and groups are priced, here is everything you need to know before you hop on.

The standard rate

Our everyday rate for regular pedicab rides around downtown is 10 dollars per passenger for every 10 minutes. That works out to about 1 dollar per passenger per minute.

So a quick 6-minute hop from dinner to your hotel is roughly 6 dollars per person. A 10-minute ride across a bigger stretch of the peninsula is 10 dollars per person. Traveling solo costs less than a group, since the rate is per passenger.

Rides north of Huger Street

If your pickup or drop-off is north of Huger Street, the rate is 15 dollars per passenger for every 10 minutes, or about 1.50 per passenger per minute. That covers the extra distance to and from the upper part of the peninsula.

Not sure whether your trip crosses that line? Just ask your driver, or mention your pickup and destination when you call, and we will tell you upfront.

How billing actually works

Here is the part people appreciate: you only pay for the time you ride.

Rides are billed by the minute, so if your trip runs a little past 10 minutes, you are only charged for those extra minutes, not rounded up to the next block. A 14-minute standard ride comes to 14 dollars per passenger. A 9-minute ride is 9 dollars. Simple and fair.

Weddings, groups, and special occasions

Wedding send-offs, big group outings, and special events are quoted ahead of time rather than charged at the standard per-minute rate. That way we can plan for decorations, timing, multiple pedicabs, and everything else that makes those rides special.

What affects your total

A few things change what you pay:

Distance and time. Longer rides cost more, since billing is by the minute.

Group size. The rate is per passenger, so a group of three costs more than a solo rider for the same trip, but you are all traveling together.

Where you are going. Trips north of Huger Street run at the higher rate.

None of it is a mystery. Ask your driver for a rough estimate before you roll and you will know what to expect.

How to pay

We keep payment easy. Cash, credit card, and Venmo are all set up through the business and always available. Many of our drivers also take other methods like CashApp, but those first three are guaranteed. Tips are always appreciated and never expected.

Is it worth it?

For getting around downtown, we think so, and not just because we are biased. You are not paying for parking. You are not watching a rideshare app surge at bar close. And you are getting an open-air ride through one of the prettiest cities in the country, with a driver who knows the good spots. For a short trip across the peninsula, it is tough to beat on value or on fun.
